Incredible to hear Dennis Miller, a comedic genius, gush over Carolla.

For those of you who enjoy follow-up, back in May, I ran into Teresa Strasser, the co-host of my aural obsession, The Adam Carolla Show podcast.

I was with then pregnant Lisa, and Ms. Strasser was with her husband and newborn, Buster.

She couldn’t have been more kind to us, and as the host of a terrific parenting podcast, was interested in Lisa, a pediatrician, becoming a mom.

She asked us to send her baby pics when Tiny O was born, we did, and she kindly replied.

Just when I thought today couldn’t get any better, Teresa Strasser wrote back to me on Twitter.

Teresa was Adam Carolla’s sidekick on the radio, and now she has a fantastic (and extremely popular) parenting podcast on iTunes: The Parent Experiment.

Amazing that, within a week of seeing Carolla live for the first time, I also happen to run into Teresa while having lunch in LA.

Knowing she was a new mom, Lisa and I introduced ourselves at this little café, and spoke briefly about parenting, and how much we like her show. She was as kind in person as she is when performing. She asked us to write to her on Twitter and send a picture when our little guy arrives.

If you’re not familiar with Teresa’s work, even if you have no interest in parenting, you’ll get a kick out of her. She’s also got a book coming out soon, based on her runaway hit of a blog, ExploitingMyBaby.com.

OMG!!! This is really happening!

OMG!!! This is really happening!

Even though this is the 23rd time I’ve won Podcast of the Year, it never gets old.

This was Adam Carolla’s response to winning the Best of 2009 from iTunes.

That’s classic Carolla. He’s doing some really cool stuff in that medium, too. Folks interested in the future of entertainment should read about his plans to build a podcast network.

So far, he’s funded his endeavor through a combination of his severance pay from CBS Radio and “live-read” advertising, where he improvises comedy around a sponsor’s special offer. His live-reads are so enjoyable, fans of his old radio show complained when they were cut from his archives.

He gets between 500K and 1M listeners to his main podcast (last I heard). His return guests often tell him that they’re recognized more from their podcast appearances than from Tonight Show visits. Presumably, this is because engagement is so much higher with a podcast that a smaller audience can still be far more valuable.

From what little we know about Woods, his running buddies off the course are Jordan, Barkley and Ken Griffey Jr.

You know what they say about birds, feathers and flocks.

If you saw me at a strip club with Ronald McDonald, would you be shocked to see me at a drive-thru ordering a Big Mac at 3 a.m? Hell, no.

I thoroughly enjoyed Jason Whitlock’s takedown of the self-righteous columnists that have weighed in on Tiger.

The above quote is in reference to all the writers who claim to feel betrayed by Tiger’s fall from grace. As Adam Carolla would say, “They’re either stupid or liars.”

The matador always wins the bullfight.

Great metaphor from Adam Carolla’s podcast this morning, in reference to how spry, athletic boxers tend to beat big, hulking punchers in title bouts.

I can’t wait to co-opt this in a business context, alienating co-workers that aren’t familiar with bull fighting, boxing or Adam Carolla.

Americans taking offence on behalf of poor ‘victimised’ foreigners is offensive — to me

No idea who Toby Young is (I’ve never seen Top Chef), but I’ve heard this point expressed a ton on Carolla.

His response is always, “We don’t get mad at ESL speakers when they mangle our words, so why aren’t we allowed to mangle theirs?”

The only mispronunciations I usually openly laugh at are by Canadians, because they’re in the North American “family”, and it’s okay to tease family :-)

For anyone with any question as to why I spend so much time consuming Carolla’s content, this kind of stuff kills me. He’s really good at taking already funny situations and piling on, and his podcast sets up those scenarios perfectly.

I can’t wait to see what he does in 2010, once his CBS contract runs out, and he can monetize his hard work again. It should be a big year for him.

Adam Carolla and Bill Simmons

I lost a squash match this morning, two games to three, and had to buy my opponent, Steve Davis, lunch.

We each had a little extra energy, so we wanted to play one final game, but we needed a new wager. I decided that the winner could make the loser watch the movie on his choosing. I figured I’d make Steve check out an old favorite of mine, like Defending Your Life. He’s been after me to watch Breaking Bad for a while, so he altered the bet to, “The loser can dictate up to 2 hours of audio/visual entertainment for the winner”.

I narrowly edged out Steve in this, our 6th, game, winning the wager (I’d still have preferred the free lunch). Instead of making him sit through a movie, I decided to use the bet to get him to try out Adam Carolla’s podcast, and I picked out an episode last week in which he interviewed Bill Simmons. It’s Carolla at the top of his game, with one of his best friends, getting a little raunchy, and it’s fairly recent.

Carola’s podcast is the most popular comedic podcast in the world, so if you’re at all inclined to check out the medium, this hysterical hour would be a good place to start.

Animator extraordinaire Dan Meth asked the CH editorial staff to discuss animal sex fantasies off the top of our heads, then illustrated our answers. I love the result.

This is definitely NSFW, but also hysterical. It immediately reminded me of the splendid “Grand Theft Submarine”, which was a piece of improvisational dialogue between Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew, brilliantly animated. Robert Smigel occasionally had similar bits on Saturday Night Live called “Fun with Real Audio”.

I’m sure these pieces are a ton of work to put together, but they seem to be a hit almost every time. I wonder why you don’t see them more often?

Number forty-seven said to number three:
You’re the cutest jailbird I ever did see.
I sure would be delighted with your company,
Come on and do the jailhouse rock with me.
It had never occurred to me that the classic Elvis tune, Jailhouse Rock, had lyrics alluding to some racy activity between prisoners. This was called to my attention by this morning’s Adam Carolla podcast.

CBS puts Adam Carolla way down in 'The Hole' on Hitfix

I’m cautiously optimistic about this show. He’s an atrocious actor, but so was Seinfeld.

If he just plays the same put-upon character he played in The Hammer, I think this will do well. He’s got a very loyal audience from his Loveline days that will give him decent ratings early on, and he seemed to be able to win over the rest of the country when he was on Dancing with The Stars, so maybe he can do it again.

Adam Carolla praises Jimmy Kimmel on his last day on 97.1 FM (today, 2/20/09). Kimmel breaks down and sobs a bit. It’s a touching story, actually, about how Kimmel took a chance on Adam when he was a nobody in the early 90’s. I’ve heard the same story told a bunch of times on Loveline back in the day but never with Kimmel on the horn.

Everyone could use a Jimmy Kimmel.

Carolla puts on a 4 hour show nearly every weekday, and I’ve listened to almost every minute of it for the last 3 years. His show got me through a lot of painful morning commutes to Apple, and a lot of brutal training runs for my marathons. Where other radio shows focus on music, prank calls, and cheap gags from listeners, Carolla spent his time on poignant, improvisational comedy.

His future plans include feature films and a lot of TV work, but more importantly an hour-long nightly podcast done from his home. He’s always said that he’d do radio for free, and now he’s proving that he meant it. Starting Monday, visit AdamCarolla.com to hear him uncensored and unencumbered by sponsor’s or program director’s advice.

He says that, if he is able to build a following and monetize his audience, he’ll invest more and more into the production of the show. I’m really excited to see where this goes.

Finally, can you imagine a classier way to close out your run as a millionaire, national radio host than to heap so much praise on the man who brought you along?

NFL overtime

Heard an interesting theory from Adam Carolla on NFL overtime…

The college system is obviously better, but assuming that we can’t do the smart thing and change to that system, why not this: If a team scores a touchdown, they win, but if a team only kicks a field goal, the other team get to receive a kickoff and take a crack at scoring.

This seems like a great compromise to me, and simple enough that the competition committee might actually go for it.
