I just watched Mamma Mia! with my parents. I tried to hate it. I failed.
Mamma Mia! may be the most aggressively ridiculous movie ever produced. It is ferocious in its exuberance, unrelenting in its absurdity. It is the opposite of Requiem for a Dream.
Case in point: the scene above. Start around 1:25 to get the flavor. Around 20 seconds later, behold a 40-second sequence that can only be described by its after-effects: you just fought Mamma Mia!, and lost.
Great “so bad it’s good” review, from a comedian I really respect. Almost makes me want to see the movie.
