I’ve been interviewed for an upcoming article about Bonobos
Here are the questions I was asked and my responses…
1. Describe your first impression after putting on Bonobos pants? Which pair do you prefer?
My first impression was that they looked different on me than any other pants I’ve worn. They felt comfortable and light, and they looked like they had tailored to fit me specifically. I wear my Tequila, Tequilas and my Capertons all the time.
2. Has it been difficult for you to find a comfortable pair in the past. If so, why?
I tended to just wear somewhat clunky trousers, but I hadn’t ever thought of them as uncomfortable until I came across Bonobos. Now a pair of non-Bonobos pants has to clear a much higher bar if I’m going to buy them.
3. What do you like about Bonobos? Where do you wear them? Are you drawn to the company based on any specific philosophy? (Online market?)
It sounds funny, but one of my primary objectives in the past when I got dressed was to NOT be noticed. I didn’t see clothes as a form of self-expression. With these pants, I like that they come in fun colors and that I can expect to get a few comments and questions when I wear them out. I want people to see them, and I like talking about fashion for the first time in my life. I feel like I’m ahead of a coming trend.
4. Style-wise, how do Bonobos compare with pants of your past? Do you associate them with them prior pants?
My other pairs of pants feel really boxy. It’s like the difference between a Volvo and a Porsche.
5. Do you have an athletic build (size?), if so, describe the difference in comfort level between Bonobos and your other brand(s).
Yes and no. I have strong legs (I’m a marathon runner), but I also have a 38 inch waist. These pants are incredibly slimming for me. It’s not uncommon for someone to tell me that I look like I’ve lost weight when I wear them. I also like the idea that people might see the musculature of my legs before they notice the rest of my husky build.
6. Please give me your name, age and occupation.
My name is Alex Bain. I’m 28, and I’m a student at Harvard Business School. Before coming to Boston for grad school, I lived in San Francisco for 5 years.
