Americans taking offence on behalf of poor ‘victimised’ foreigners is offensive — to me

No idea who Toby Young is (I’ve never seen Top Chef), but I’ve heard this point expressed a ton on Carolla.

His response is always, “We don’t get mad at ESL speakers when they mangle our words, so why aren’t we allowed to mangle theirs?”

The only mispronunciations I usually openly laugh at are by Canadians, because they’re in the North American “family”, and it’s okay to tease family :-)
